The Magic Circle
The heroes have met the being called ‘The Fourth’ during a malfunctional portal outside of time. Apparently The Fourth is keeper and even creator of time. Not only can he stop, rewind, adjust and change time at his own wim, he can also destroy and create it, and he keeps control over an almost infinite number of timelines.
The name he seems to use for himself the most is ‘The Line’, since he said that that is how most people will come to call him, several eternities after the heroes lifetimes, and that name will have been stuck with him by then. He appears as a giant man, sitting on a bench, with clothes and a face so unremarkable that it is very hard to remember what he looked like, and when our heroes try to recollect what he looked like, they all had different opinions about his looks.
The fourth says that he is the fourth being in the universe to ever exist, and that these kinds of upper entities are the highest form of beings there is, all of them having powers over the universe in some way. The first, also called The Creator, makes everything, gives it a purpose and existence. He is the first being in the universe, when it was all a black cosmos of nothingness. He found it rather tiring to control everything so he created several other upper entities to do his work for him. So far the heroes have heard (from the fourth) of The Second, called the spirit, who gives everything a free will, and controls what beings are allowed a free will, and can control all his beings. As such, he could change someones will, personality and feelings at will. They have also heard of The Fifth, also called The Power, who determines the power of all things, even gods.
Each upper entity has complete power over their own subject, as the fourth have time, the second have free will and the fifth has power, but they can also use the matter of one of the lower entities. As such, the fourth could change the strength and power of a creature, as that is an ability of a lower entity, but he could not change their free will. The order of the entities and their powers have been determined by The First as the amount of importance he gave them.
